Gobbler Holler

My father-in-law Richard and I have become a couple of old guys that look 👀 forward to Saturday morning breakfast 🍳. We also stopped by the Circle ⭕️ K to get an Indianapolis Star newspaper 🗞 as Richard needs a hard copy to do the crossword puzzle.

Eventually, we made it to Gobbler Holler near Medora on Highway 50. I had the French toast waffle that smelled delicious with cinnamon and powdered sugar sprinkled on top. The butter looked as if it was just dipped from a butter 🧈 churn. Richard had sausage, eggs and toast but he was hungry and I couldn’t get a picture.

Further, I couldn’t help but notice the sign on the door for the Kilnfest coming up September 18 at the old Medora Brick 🧱 Company. Who doesn’t want to go to that?

The food was great and you will always run into someone you know and catch up.

French toast waffle 🧇 and some crispy 🥓 bacon.

First Miracle Winery 🍷

Drive toward West Washington High School but turn left off of Highway 56. You might want to turn on the gps. There is an Amish bakery you pass called Rosebud Bakery that I also need to try.

They feature brick 🧱 over pizzas and gourmet grilled cheese 🥪 sandwiches made with bread from the nearby Amish bakery.

All of there wines have Bible related names and the owners Andy and Goldie can tell you a story about each one. Also, there is no sugar added to any of their wines and some are even good for a Keto diet.

The Margarita 🍕 Pizza was fantastic!
I did pick off the black 🫒 olives, however, the BBQ Chicken pizza was also delicious.

The first miracle that Jesus did was changing water 💦 into 🍷 wine. Thus the name First Miracle.

We made sure we went on Friday evening for the Bingo games. Heidi, Bruce and Mendy all won a bottle of wine and I even got to call a game.

After a tasting I enjoyed a glass of blueberry 🫐 wine.
As an appetizer we tried the 🧄 garlic Parmesan Tater tots.

Kirkwood Cream Ale @ Poplar Street

Bringing some crafty character to Poplar Street Tavern. (Priscilla allowed me behind the bar for the photo.)

Priscilla Wischmeier is bringing upscale drinking to Poplar Street. She had the opportunity to bring Kirkwood Cream Ale on tap and I was excited to hear the news. If that isn’t good enough, you can also get a pint of Shotgun Wedding, a dark beer from Kentucky with lots of personality. There are a variety of beverages and some great food right here!

We had the first tap and even had Bloomington Brewing Company glasses.
A corned beef and Swiss on rye. Grilled, with a Kirkwood draft on supervision duty in the rear.

🌶 Chile’s

I usually don’t do chain restaurants, however, we have had these gift cards since Christmas. We were car shopping in Seymour and decided to give Chile’s a shot. Good decision on our part.

Tropical 🌴 🌅 Sunrise
Caribbean chicken 🥗 salad with 🥑 avocado slices. Heidi thought it was very good. The pineapple 🍍 and tangerines 🍊 added some character.
Pick three combo!

This was a winner! Brisket served on 🧄 garlic 🍞 bread, Half slab of ribs, however, the jalapeño cheddar smoked sausage was my favorite of the three. The fries were 🥵 hot and the street corn 🌽 was superb. It appears they probably boil it and then put it in the griddle with lots of butter. I also had a Sam Adams Octoberfest and thought it was reasonably priced. $4 pint and $5 tall.

Flora-Bama: Ole River Grill

I have personally tasted the Blue Chair Bay Key Lime Rum and it is delicious!!!

Bruce and Mendy Stahl drove Heidi and I here for the Thomas Rhett concert on Saturday night. After a lunch of baked 🦪 oysters and 🍤 shrimp, we decided on the Ole River Grill for dinner.

We have had the Blue Chair Bay Key Lime this past June in North Carolina and it was fantastic. The guy said “on ice.” And he was correct.
Cool 😎 list of drinks from the Flora-Bama.
The 🍤 shrimp and Grits is the Big Cahuna!!! It is incredible!!! Very tasty!!!
Heidi had the Blackened Fish 🌮 tacos.
We watched the sunset 🌅 from the intracoastal water way behind the Ole River Grill and Jubilee Landing. After a day on the beach, it was beautiful!
Oysters 🦪 McClellan. 🥓 Bacon and Parmesan oysters. Very tasty!!

We stay at Jubilee Landing and the Flora-Bama is a half mile away. It is my Disney Land!!!

Cracked Chicken Burger

This 🍔 burger hit the spot. They were sizzling as I walked in the door. Heidi had also picked and shucked the corn. What a woman!!! Lu my I stayed at school late, I guess.

Ground 🐓 chicken, a packet of Ranch dressing and a cup of shredded cheese is all it takes to make the Cracked Chicken Burger. The garden is still producing sweet 🌽 corn and it is still delicious! Throw in a zucchini from the garden and the meal is complete.

Heidi had these bad boys on the griddle when I got home. Can’t wait to try them on the grill.
Can you see the steam rising on the pyramid of sweet 🌽?
A make-shift bun with some Dave’s Awesome whole grain bread and a slice of cheese tops off the burger. I prefer my corn sliced off the cob. Baked Zucchini with some salt and pepper.

Blackberry Dumplings: Are You Kidding Me?

Originally, this was going to be titled “Grassy Fork Fish Fry” , however, after Nina Hackman broke out the dessert, we had to reconsider.

It was an educational experience for me tonight. I had stood around and drank beer before while Richard had fried, but tonight I became more of a participant.

Huge shout out to Brad Herndon who gave Richard two bags of blue gill 🎣 filets. We threw in a our Tractor Pull triangle fish to make sure we had enough.
I love the color in this pan. We fried onion 🧅 rings, green and orange 🫑 peppers, mushrooms 🍄 and zucchini. Wowzer!!! Dipped in beer batter and it turned out delicious.
Blackberry Dumplings!!! The picture does not do it justice.

Nina took blackberries, sugar and water and brought it to a boil. Then, simply, she added bits of refrigerated biscuits and simmered for a while. When I first looked, I didn’t see and dumplings…A couple of spoonfuls of the dumplings and topped with vanilla ice cream and you have created a masterpiece.

The Court Room: Bedford

I went to visit my brother, Frank today in Bedford and we visited The Court Room. It has a combination basketball 🏀 and Cajun theme.

This is one section of the basketball court-like bar. Continuing with the Cajun part, that is a pint of Abita Purple Haze that was on draft. Abita is a Louisiana based brewery.

The Court Room tap.
They will give you a sample if you would like to try a beer. Also, they have flights.
Shrimp Etoufee. Grilled shrimp 🍤 in a creamy and spicy sauce. I had to dab my forehead several times due to the sweat.
Frank had the oyster 🦪 PoBoy and Cajun fries.
Frank donated this poster to The Court Room honoring Bill Garrett. Bill was the first African-American basketball player in the Big Ten.

The significance of Bill Garrett, from my point of view is that my Dad, Walt Wintin, was a high school team mate of Bill on the 1947 state championship basketball team from Shelbyville. Bill was selected Mr. Basketball that year as well.

(Dad flat out admitted that he was just fortunate to be the same age as some very talented basketball players that played for the Golden Bears.)

Indiana University President, Herman B. Wells and coach Branch McCracken were instrumental in bringing Bill to IU in the late 40s when the Big Ten had yet to integrate. Dad told me that he attended Bill’s wedding in Madison when he married Betty Innskeep. He said that He was one of three white people that attended the wedding. The other two were Mr. and Mrs. Branch McCracken.

Big Woods: Edinburgh

Heidi took me back to school shopping today. Since our week on the beach 🏖 in June through the fair, I have done nothing but eat, drink , and be merry. Thus, I either need new pants or consume nothing for a few days.

Heidi spotted the Big Woods as we entered the Edinburgh Outlet Mall. After shopping we had a seat at the bar. As we chatted with Samantha, the bar tender/waitress, we raved about Big Woods and Hard Truth and how we enjoyed the product. As the gentleman next to us exited, he extended his hand and said “Thank You. I’m Jim, the owner.”

Jim added that they have enlarged the outdoor terrace area at the Nashville location and are turning it into an amphitheater that will seat 1,000 guests as a music venue.

I really like this situation. With all the quality craft beer that Big Woods and Quaff On! offer, they throw in a Miller Lite for that guy that just can’t get there.
Our awesome bar tender, Samantha, gave me a sample and then I ordered a pint of their new Six Foot Huckleberry Blonde. It was light, crisp and delightful!
I had the 🐓 chicken, 🥓 bacon, ranch panini on ciabatta bread and it was fantastic! The bread was toasted to perfection and the house made potato chips were warm when they were delivered.
Heidi enjoyed the Greek 🥗 salad.

Whoa! Reed’s Place

So it’s Friday, July 23rd. My 60th birthday 🎂. My sweetheart of a wife, Heidi, plans an incredible evening of food, family, friends and fun.

We get to Reed’s Place and my best friend from college, Jon Tilmon is waiting at our table. Surprise! Then we enjoy the Tomahawk 🥩 steak which was fantastic as well as a Strawberry 🍓 👱‍♀️ Blonde. Reed’s can now serve alcohol. while dining, Heidi gives us all (Pottschmidts, Stahls, Jon and us) tickets to a concert 🎵 at Hickory Hills Golf Course.

We go to Poplar Street for a round and then it is back to Stahl Farms before the concert. We turn the corner around the garage and there are 30 people saying “Surprise!” I thought Jon Tilmon was the surprise. Now here is my Mom, we shared a few moments on this day 60 years ago, my brother David, And a bunch of our closest friends and family. Heidi absolutely slayed it! Turns out she made fake concert tickets and the party was ON. I should have known something was up when the Stahls garage was all cleaned up when we were left for the restaurant.

Heidi raised the bar so high that I could never reach it. Her birthday was the next day on the 24th and I got her a card.

Jon Tilmon, my awesome wife, Heidi Wintin, Walt Wintin, Billie Wintin, David Wintin.
