Starchy Yellows and Whites

There wasn’t much contrast in color, however, this meal was glorious. Pork chops in the crock pot simmered all day in cream of chicken soup, Bob Evan’s mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese followed up with Texas Road House rolls with cinnamon butter. Heidi had it all ready when I walked in the door and Sophie and Liam joined us for a very nice family dinner with little or no cell phone interruption. Heidi simply enjoys providing for her family and I am a fortunate man.

I was very excited when I realized I would have leftovers tomorrow.
On a recent blog post I received 369 views. This graphic represents the different countries and the number of views. I am curious of what is going on in Poland? There were 152 hits on “Sophie’s Crunch Wrap.” I may be a star in Europe and not even know it.

Reed’s Place

I had the 12 ounce ribeye, baked potato 🥔, asparagus with Parmesan and garlic toast. They placed a little blob of garlic butter on the 🥩 steak that really added to the flavor. A sweet tea to wash it down! Highly recommended. (The steak is thin, however, it is high quality.)

Located at 224 South Chestnut Street in Seymour, Indiana, Reed’s Place is providing quality dining in downtown.

Word is that they have a Tomahawk steak that weighs three pounds and takes 45 minutes to cook. Heidi and I plan a follow up visit to try it out. You have to call ahead for that one.

New Ross Steak House

Lawson Wintin. Three months old today on January 9.

The reason for the trip was to visit our grandson, Lawson. Isn’t he handsome!

We walked two blocks over to the New Ross Steak 🥩 House. New Ross is in Montgomery County about nine miles from Crawfordsville. Heidi and I each had the New Year ‘s Resolution grilled chicken 🥗 salad with poppy seed dressing. I could see the kitchen from my seat and the chicken was grilled fresh when I ordered it and it was very tasty. The poppyseed dressing was thick and different from anything I have had before. I liked it.

Kiley had a bacon 🥓 🍔 cheeseburger that was stacked high and followed through with taste. Also, the seasoned French fries were delicious!

Christmas 🎄 French Toast 🇫🇷

To quote Heywood Banks, “French Toast!!!”

Heidi has spoiled us on Christmas 🎁 gifts and fine dining forever. The traditional French Toast breakfast again was wonderful. She takes a loaf of 🥖 French bread sliced thick and doused with 🧈 butter, brown sugar and 🥚 eggs and then baked to golden brown.

The whole pan. I had three pieces!

Happy Holidays, people!!!

Chik-fil-A Columbus: Super Service

Actually, it may be any Chik-fil-A that offers great service. But today, it was Columbus, Indiana that was killing it. Sophie and I pull in as it begins to rain. They run these personal pup tens out so that the order takers can avoid the weather.

We cruise up and we meet Gabrielle. Oozing with personality as she is wearing a tent ⛺️ and a Covid mask. She bubbled throughout the order and they later delivered an outstanding meal from the Diet Coke with the ice pellets, Spicy Chicken (No Pickle) and Pepper Jack cheese, waffle fries 🍟 and a delicious chocolate chip 🍪 cookie.

Chin-fil-A has an obviously awesome training program which must include “Manners.”

My position is that all teenagers should be required to do Chik-fil-A manner training and the world would be a better place! Then, when you get an employee like Gabrielle, she kicks it to a new level and everyone is happy!

Chick -fil- A management should be a model for our government. They are here to serve 🇺🇸 America!

The 🥕 Carrots, Though!

My daughters have been doing outstanding in the kitchen. I suggested Freddy’s and Rae said “I can cook.”

Chicken Parmesan, Roasted 🥕 carrots and I contributed the Caesar 🥗 salad in a bag.

The 🥕 carrots were seasoned with olive oil, 🧂 salt and pepper, Dominant ☝️ One and garlic powder and baked to perfection. Kudos, Rae!!!

These carrots need to become a regular item on my menu!

Sophie Scores on the Crunch Wrap

Sophie got the idea from a Tik Tok video. So, thanks for that anyway, China!

Sophie carefully wraps my dinner.
After wrapping put it in the 🍳 skillet like a grilled cheese.
It consists of 🌮 taco beef, lettuce, cheese, and a crunchy tortilla wrapped in a soft flour tortilla. Then covered with nacho cheese.

Bring a napkin! Sophie put Taco Bell to shame on this one. Great flavor and quality!

Boomtown Kitchen

New Albany , Indiana is where you will find the Boomtown Kitchen. Bruce had seen it on WDRB channel 41 and it did not disappoint.

The entry floor is made with pennies. Cool stuff.
How cool is this 🥨 pretzel and beer 🍺 cheese delivered hanging on a stand like this. It had a crispy and salty shell on the outside and chewy dough on the inside. Not to mention the jalapeño cornbread bites with Ranch. Whoa!
Nice bar that was not available due to Covid.
Fish and chips. I ate the fries first and they were hot 🥵 and incredible! The fish was piping hot and tasty.

The Four Horsemen

July of 1994 it was. My family had just ordered breakfast at the Perkins Restaurant in Fort Collins , Colorado. Two year old Lawyer was restless so he and I went on walkabout. I was wearing my Notre Dame Four Horsemen shirt that I had purchased at the Notre Dame bookstore. As we walked around the restaurant, a gentleman noticed the shirt and asked, “Are you a Notre Dame fan?” I replied, “I am from Indiana and I have been to the campus. Did you go there?”

Grinning, he said “No.” pointing to my shirt “But that guy right there is my Dad!”

What, The What!?!

Harry Stuhldreher, Jr and Walt Wintin in Fort Collins , Colorado in July of 1994.

I slide into the booth and have a conversation with Harry Stuhldreher, Jr. He talks about how after his famed career at Notre Dame that “Dad” coached at Wisconsin and he was visiting his daughter in Colorado etc. Lawyer had wandered back to his mom and after a while she came and said that our food had arrived. I shook Harry’s hand and returned to my table. We happened to be leaving at the same time and thought to ask for a picture. You can tell that we both appreciated the visit.

The Four Horsemen were made famous not just by their talent, but also by an article after the Army game written by sportswriter Grantland Rice of the New York-Herald Tribune on October 19, 1924.

“Outlined against a blue, gray October sky the Four Horsemen rode again. In dramatic lore they are know as famine, pestilence, destruction and death. These are only aliases. There real names are Stuhldreher, Miller, Crowley and Layden.”

Yes. I know none of these guys won the Heisman because it didn’t start until 1935. I just wanted you all to know that I keep my T-shirts for at least 26 years.

Brooklyn Pizza Stromboli

In Italian, Stromboli means turnover.

This Stromboli from Brooklyn Pizza is incredible! Looks like a big calzone and the taste will bring you back.

Jalapeño Cream Ale.

Besides the cream ale, I also had a Pumpkin Pie Hole. Shawn has some great names for his brews and with the tent outside and the 🔥 fire pit, David an I didn’t mind sitting outside in November.
