We started the day with a hike along Lake James at Pokagon State Park. Then it was on to Marblehead Lighthouse on Lake Erie.
Along the way we found Jacque. In the 1970s he held a giant roast beef sandwich 🥪. Today, he stands out side of Mickey 🫎 Moose’s gas station. At Mickey’s, we bought some Leinenkugel’s 🍒 Cherry Lakeside. Then , we drank one, by the side of Lake Erie.Marblehead Lighthouse.Walleye and sweet potato 🍠 waffle fries.
We had lunch at The Galley. And come to find out from our waitress, JoJo, it is the walleye capital of the world.
We shared these huge filets and also had some clam chowder. All was delicious!!!😋
We drove on to Cuyahoga Valley National Park 🏞️.
Brandywine Falls.
We will further explore the Cuyahoga Valley tomorrow.
We had some good food at Jed’s, however, the highlights were Oubache and Chain O’ Lakes State Parks.
Heidi had the Goober 🍔 burger which was two big smash burgers, crispy 🥓bacon, 🥒 pickles, tater tots and slaw. (Also, the goober is Peanutbutter). 👍 Leinenkugel’s Juicy 🍑 Peach, pretzel 🥨 bites and Heidi had an Espresso 🍸 martini.
We started at Oubache and hiked the CCC Challenge. Five miles of searching, climbing, hiking and learning about the Civilian Conservation Corps.
106 steps to be top.🔝
We also hiked 1.7 miles at Chain O’ Lakes and are spending the night at Pokagon State Park and hiking in the morning before traveling to Cuyahoga Valley National Park in Ohio Saturday.
Heidi had over 20,000 steps today while I had 19,000. More of the same tomorrow.
Lawson at 🦖 Dinosaur World in Cave City, Kentucky.Outstanding pizza at Cave City Pizza. It was recommended by Pete at the Wigwam Village where we stayed.Lawson outside our Wigwam unit. I had to drink a Ski with my award winning pizza.Nana, Dubs and Lawson at Dinosaur World.Buccees!
Jacob and John Tilmon sharing a pretzel at The Yard House in downtown Indianapolis.BBQ Bacon 🥓 Cheddar 🍔 Burger and a basket of fries.🍟 Several Colts players gathered for prayer before the game. 🙏🏻 National Anthem.
Former Colts running back Edgerin James has a talented daughter that sang the National Anthem. He was there when Eyahna sang a beautiful rendition of the song. The best part for me was when the flag bearers started waving the huge flag when she sang “does that star spangled banner yet wave.”
The Mount Rushmore of football fans: Chris, Walt, Jacob, Jon.
Sophie had help from Lawson blowing out candles. But how about that beautiful cookie 🍪 cake that Heidi made!?!
We changed it up and made chocolate ice cream with chocolate chips. It was a hit!!!Lawson had big fun playing at Dubs and Nana’s house!🏠
Although the dessert was a highlight, the main course of T-bones and ribeyes 🥩, baked potatoes 🥔 and corn 🌽 was fantastic , just too busy with babies to take pictures of all that.
The Outlaw 🍔 is a dandy sandwich consisting of. Half pound beef patty, BBQ sauce, 🥓 bacon, cheddar cheese, and an onion 🧅 ring. The 🥩 steak knife 🔪 like a dagger through the awesome bun added to the presentation!
On the side I had sweet potato 🍠 waffle fries with marshmallow dip. The entire package was way above average!
If you show Ken Hackman the above picture he would want the mini barn in focus. He did an outstanding job refurbishing it for us. (or maybe even show more of the dog fence he put up while visiting over Memorial Day.)
However, let’s start with the half 🥓 bacon half beef burgers from Darlage Custom Meats. They were seasoned with garlic salt and applewood 🍎 rub and then grilled on indirect heat on my Weber Grill over charcoal and smoking 💨 applewood 🍎 from an old apple tree that blew over in the parsonage yard in Wegan, Indiana.
An “Everything” Kroger bun, bacon 🍔 burger, sweet corn 🌽 from our garden and zucchini from the garden topped with garlic salt and Parmesan cheese. Big Score on this one!!!
I did the burgers while Heidi did the corn and zucchini and we, along with Liam, were all very satisfied with the outcome.
Heidi also made a 🍅 tomato version that she enjoyed.
Fresh garden vegetables make any meal both rewarding and delicious!!!
On a Jeep ride with Jeff and Connie Stahl to Brown County; after a hike at Brown County State Park, we dined at the Sycamore Saloon and it was outstanding!!!
I had the whitefish platter and it was top of the line good! Crunchy on the outside and steaming hot 🥵 on the inside. The fries and steamed broccoli 🥦 were tasty as well. The Stahls shared a Cowboy 🤠 (Meat) pizza and it 👀 looked fantastic. They confirmed that it was.
And how about that plump and juicy blackberry on that beer! Btw, Hog Molly is a brewery out of Columbus, Indiana.
We arrived in Berlin tonight and our 🥘 dinner was at Hasir, a wonderful Turkish restaurant. While we were dining the European Cup game ⚽️ between Turkey 🇹🇷 And Georgia 🇬🇪 was being played. We often heard the cheers from the staff and patrons as Turkey gained the victory.
This is the hollow pita bread delivered to our table. I poked it with a knife 🔪 and steam poured out. This was amazing! A filet of 🥩 beef, lamb chop on a bone, and chicken 🐓! Phenomenal!!!
Raki is the national drink of Turkey. 🇹🇷 Our bus driver, Norbert, bought me a round. Next thing you know, everyone needs a shot.
My new friends McKayla and Stephanie with a shot of Raki.My beautiful wife Heidi and a shot of Raki.
After dinner we hit the subway and I had a “Wiezen My Ass” at the Brauhaus which is made up of shipping containers. Cool spot. We sat outside in the Biergarten for an enjoyable time.
Shipping container turned into a stairway.
Someone said something about The Frog 🐸 👑 Prince and I was pretty sure we were going to a bar… Turns out, we are going to an extended train station to see a crowned 👑 frog monument. Imagine my disappointment.
Frog Prince.Solomon rubbed it for good luck. ☘️
Night 1 in Berlin was a huge success. We are on to the Berlin Wall site and learning about the Cold War and How East and West Germany 🇩🇪 became unified… Walt Wintin, Life Long Learner! (That’s for you, Stephanie!)
